I’ve spent the last week decluttering, putting things in its place and taking it all in… and when I tell you the kid is tired, THE KID IS TIRED! It’s been a treat to follow along on Instagram as these amazing ladies who are also participating in the ORC are tackling their projects head on. On one hand, I’ve been so inspired and motivated by them, while and on the other I feel bad because they’re way ahead of me. In the same breath, I’m sitting in my living room with a fascinator on doing a plant photo-shoot. But that’s life and the motto here is community over competition.
Declutter/Put things in its place - I started by grabbing items and putting them in its place without organizing it. I found that when I did that I was able to keep moving and not be held up by perfection. You also start to see some clarity and it motivates you because you can see surfaces again!
Purge - Now that I’m left with items that I know longer need it's time to decide whether to sell or donate.
Sit still and reflect - Now that I’m down to the base pieces, I can sit in here and think about adding what’s needed after listening to the room. Really consider the vibe I want this space to exude as well as how I want to utilize it. What’s going to stay, what needs to go, what I need/want. This living space refresh will include a few new purchases but the majority of the items that I will be incorporating are already in my home.
(this is sure to grow longer because I’m indecisive and a Virgo)
- Downsize sofa
- Switch out coffee table
- Add an area rug
- Address odd spacing in bookshelf
- Switch out wing-back chair for a full swivel chair
- Incorporate art in the entry
- Switch out lamps for pendants
- Replace side tables
- Move plants around
There are also tons of little but impactful things that I need to do. And for the sake of keeping the post simple I didn’t share them. However, let me know below if you want me to share … The little big list is real y’all.
Now it’s time for a good deep cleaning.
Check back next week as I share the mood for this space after listening to the room and how I address the odd spacing in the bookshelf. There will be a weekly blog post chronicling the progress. If you don’t already, be sure to follow me on Instagram! I’ll be sharing behind-the-scenes updates in my IG stories and of course, you are welcomed to see what I’m obsessing over on my Pinterest page.
